The lunch break in the workplace is not just a time to satisfy hunger. It's a moment where colleagues gather, ideas are exchanged and bonds between employees are strengthened. At Hans Just, a renowned wine and spirits distributor with a history of over 156 years, lunchtime has always had a special meaning - which is why we're incredibly proud to deliver the Hans Just lunch program. In this blog post, Mira Wassini Hulstrøm, Office Manager at Hans Just, shares how they successfully implemented a more sustainable lunch program by embracing flexibility and innovation.

The focal point and part of the culture

At Hans Just, lunch is a high priority and employees all eat together, creating a sense of community and the opportunity to relax and recharge in the middle of the day. As part of Mira's regular routine, she seeks feedback from her colleagues, for example by having lunch with different colleagues every day.

After years of working well with their existing lunch program, Mira's colleagues wanted to try something new. They weren't unhappy with their existing solution, but ready to be challenged, and that's where Officeguru came in. The importance of lunch for Hans Just is well illustrated by the comment Mira received from her colleague who held Mira's position before her:

"There are a lot of people to please, which is almost a completely impossible task"

Through the marketplace, Mira received three offers, and the process led to Mira switching to lunch delivery through the Officeguru platform.

"I think the coolest thing Officeguru sold was that app. It really made me think, that's really something."

In addition to the employee app, the platform also provides a flexibility that allows her to choose and switch lunch suppliers as needed, which proved to be an invaluable option.

The first supplier on Officeguru

After two weeks of lunch from one of the kitchens on the Officeguru platform, the kitchen turned out not to be the right match. The food wasn't to the colleagues' liking and the kitchen didn't have the ability to adapt. Fortunately, the flexibility of the platform made it easy for them to switch to another supplier, which was a positive experience for them.

Mira spoke to her Customer Success manager at Officeguru, who guided her to a lunch supplier on the platform that better suited Hans Just's needs. This process helped them find the perfect lunch solution, which they are now super happy with. Both because it's delicious food at lunchtime, but also because the kitchen is super responsive and capable of even the smallest adjustments.

Easier administration and employee responsibility for the environment

Mira also highlighted the Officeguru app, which allows employees to sign up and unsubscribe for lunch and indicate their preferences, such as vegetarian, pescatarian or pork-free. Previously, Mira was responsible for registering and deregistering colleagues' lunches, which was an administrative burden that took time away from more important tasks in the office.

"Well, I get rid of a lot of administration, a lot of time that I was spending sending emails and this and that."

She points out how the employee app has allowed her to shift responsibility to her colleagues, which also plays well with the company's focus on taking responsibility for the environment. It makes colleagues responsible for avoiding food waste.

Hans Just is committed to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and has taken a lot of steps to reduce food waste and promote sustainable practices, from light sources to cleaning. On the lunch table, it has also been important to have a vegetarian alternative that is not just a boring version of the meat dish, but is actually a delicious dish in its own right. This makes employees want to choose more vegetarian days in their app and reduce the carbon footprint.

"It tastes insanely good. It has a lot of flavor and you don't even need meat... More people have jumped on the bandwagon, including older gentlemen - who otherwise like a good steak."

Conclusion: Flexibility and employee responsibility are key

Hans Just's journey towards a more sustainable and flexible lunch program has been a success, thanks to Mira's determination and the support of the Officeguru platform. Through flexibility, innovation and good communication, they have created a lunch experience that not only satisfies the taste buds but also supports the company's commitment to sustainability.

It's an inspiring example of how companies can adapt and improve employee wellbeing and the environment at the same time.
